The SEAI solar grant in 2026, explained
1 June 2026 · 4 min read
The grant is €700/kWp on the first 2 kWp plus €200/kWp up to 4 kWp, capped at €1,800. Here is exactly how it stacks up and what it means on a quote.
How much is the SEAI solar grant in 2026?
The SEAI solar PV grant is €700 per kWp on the first 2 kWp installed, plus €200 per kWp up to 4 kWp, capped at €1,800. A home installing 4 kWp or more receives the full €1,800; smaller systems receive a proportionate amount.
What the grant looks like by system size
- 2 kWp: 2 × €700 = €1,400.
- 3 kWp: €1,400 + (1 × €200) = €1,600.
- 4 kWp and above: €1,400 + (2 × €200) = €1,800 (the cap).
Beyond 4 kWp the grant does not increase, but the system can still grow. Most Irish homes with an EV or a heat pump end up specifying well above 4 kWp, so the €1,800 is simply deducted from the project total.
What installers need to quote it correctly
The grant is deducted from the gross project price, and a clear quote shows three lines: gross price, grant, and net to the customer. Getting this right matters, because the homeowner is comparing your quote against two others and the net figure is what they remember. In Caolú the grant is calculated live from the system size and shown on those three clear lines automatically, so there is no manual maths to second-guess at the kitchen table.
The detail that builds trust
Grant payment follows a mandatory post-works BER assessment after the install. Flagging that step up front, rather than letting it surprise the homeowner later, is one of the small things that makes a one-person operation look as professional as a national brand.
